about your book
Secrets Of
Power: THE MENTAL WARRIOR
Can you tell us a little bit
about your book
BM: Well
The Mental warrior is the second in the series of the Secrets
of Power. It deals with the issues and techniques
needed to develop mental techniques
Rick:
What made you decide to write Secrets Of Power: THE
MENTAL WARRIOR?
BM: I
realized that the real power of martial arts was not in
the physical side of the realm but instead in the
ability to both train and understand the
mind. But there have been so many feel good
books that didn't give the real facts that I felt
it was time to give people who really wanted to
know an alternative. This is especially true with
Autohypnosis which is a extremely useful mental technique but
most people don't know about ... because
there just isn't much factual material out there
that is in a format that the non PHD psychiatrist
or psychologist can easily understand. Furthermore
none of it is really explained in a way that is
applied to the martial arts. So I wanted to give
martial artists the option of understanding and
developing this tool.
but I didn't want to write just
another just do this, sit in this meditation
position and think pure thoughts type of book. Instead I wanted
to give an understanding of both the methods of mental training
AND the reason why such things work from a scientific point of
view (In terms that are understandable even if you don't
have medical training) and way to mark your
progress so you can determine how you are
doing.
Rick: What kind of background do you have that
allowed you to write such an informative
book?
BM: well both my training in martial
arts and of course my medical training is
psychiatry as a Physician Assistant. I have 27
years experience and training in medicine and over
40 years in the martial arts.
But didn't
base this book on just my personal beliefs or experience. I
based it on solid reference material and in fact gave many of
those references so that people could look up what
I said and take it beyond my book if they
desired.
Rick: Is your book for martial artists or
would anyone benefit from it?
BM:
Actually the techniques and explanation can be used by anyone!
Especially since I lay out the scientific explanations in way
that anyone can use.
Rick: How would
your book help a martial artist?
BM: well
first off I believe that the real secret to controlling what
happens around you is in controlling your own mind.
Understanding what is happening and being able to control
both your (natural) fear and your responses gives
you a tremendous edge. Especially in times of
confrontation our mind can work for us or against
us ... learning the ways to make it work for us can make
all the difference when it counts the
most.
Rick; And how would your book help the average
person?
BM: the
same situations that confront a martial artist in
an altercation affect everyone now a days. Even
though not always as intense the same stresses are
there. Therefore the ability to control
your mind is a benefit that can be used I think by
anyone.
