How to Set Your Purchased Product to Automatically Download and Have Your Customer's Email Program Open Without cgi Code

I wanted a way to automatically start a download and have my new customer's default email pop up with a CC to my newsletter and the body of the email filled out with a simple message. I also wanted it to be a simple process which any new product owner would be able to do without knowing cgi or php.

Iframes seemed to be the easiest way. I used a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) HTML editor to make the iframes. In one frame I added the direct download link. The security in the browser will stop stop the link from instantly downloading, but it is another opportunity for people to click the security bar on top to see what the download is. So whatever it takes to increase the chances of customers downloading their product and not getting frustrated I support. Do you know some people who buy ebooks cannot even attach a file to an email?

The next item on the adjenda was to get an email to my new customer and give him/her a reminder via email as to any download and password instructions. At the same time I wanted to stay in contact with my new client so I set up a cc for my submission and update group and text in the subject in the body of the email. Because I'm trying to keep it simple the customer replaces text in the To: field with his/her email address.

Nothings perfect but it is simple. Change your download page every so often as well and name it something cryptic. Try to avoid files names such as download.html

Here's the iframe codes to start your automatic download and open your clients default email program. Nothing invasive your client still has all the options to accept or reject anything you offer. Obviously replace the text and emails with whatever you like.

I realize those who understand cgi and php are wondering if I'm crazy or lazy. Perhaps a bit of both, but this is a very simple cut and paste method for thank you pages to increase the chances of your customers getting their products they ordered with greater ease while at the same time increasing the possibility of further communication.
