wrote This back up program because xcopy seemed to be slow on my xp.
I also wanted the option of copying by date but not overwriting newer
files

Download
InstallBackUpByKirkham.exe from

After
joining the group in order to receive free update notices
Double
click on InstallBackUpByKirkham.exe. Depending on your computer's
settings the .exe may not show up
The program is driven by an
ini file. I'm a bit lazy about writing interfaces for these but if
you just double click on it and follow the directions you can do it
easily.
Kewl Stuff about the Program
You set the date to start the backup
If you set the year to 0000 you do a complete backup or restore of backed up files
You can do back ups over a network. Use mapped drives for this it's easier.
Unlike xcopy, even after setting the date it won't overwrite newer files.
You can set the source computer to turn off after the backup.
I can add other functions. I don't have to depend on some other guy to like the same weird functions I like. I'll also do this for anyone who supports my work with a donation (my work helps feed my family it's not so I can buy an xbot or something).
Stuff That Needs Work on The Backup Program
It's slow. It has to check each file for the date before it copies. I now have three of the main programs running at once to speed it up a bit.
Though the reading of files is slow the copying itself is very fast. A little to fast for my flash card. XP thinks it has to fix it half the time by running a scandisk on boot up. I'm working on a way to slow it down.
Addendum – The program now looks to see if the drive is removable. If it's removable it uses xcopy to copy the files. I don't use any other xcopy switches other than /y/c so the program will still check to make sure it's not overwriting newer files.

A Few Things I Might do in The Future with The Backup Program
Do a copy backwards by date function until the storeage disk is filled up or the number of days to back up is completeed though it really doesn't seem necessary anymore since hardly anyone uses floppy disks.
Create an easy to use interface to set up your copy file. Right now you just open it up and follow the directions which are pretty easy.
